Home Song Of The Moment 80's Music Quiz 80's Lyrics Quiz Scene And Heard 09 June 08 Music DVD Best Of Bowie started off my music dvd day today. Released in 2002 it has 47 tracks on 2 dvds. Obviously if you are not a fan of Bowie then this isn't something you will watch. Starting at Oh! You Pretty Things and finishing of at Survive, I cant think of anything it is missing single wise. But I am not a knowledgable Bowie fan so I am certain there is someone out there pissed at one song or another not being included. What is interesting is watching all the transformations he went through. I have to admit I havent heard anything since Thursdays Child so I am way behind what he is doing nowdays. But after watching this again I have an inkling to go and find out. PopArt - The Hits from Pet Shop Boys followed. I can never hate a PSB song as far as I am concerned. There are a few I cringe at and there are some that really dont go well but I cant help but "like" them. And for those looking for a link remember that Hello Spaceboy from Bowie was a collaboration and PSB do it themselves from memory. Anyhow, the dvd starts at Opportunities and runs through to London. Again up to about 02. There are a few things on this DVD I like. One is the extended versions which I am always a fan of. Secondly there is a commentary where both Neil and Chris's comment on all the videos as they are being played. really quite funny lads. Obviously again its for fans, but if you have liked some of there stuff this is a great way to hear it all. I would be in the minority but I think there are better tracks of the albums than some of the singles, but this is a great taster if think you might like to get into the back catalogue. 26-11-07 Movies Wrong Turn 2 had, at first glance nothing going for it. The first one had nothing going for it, not even the woman from Buffy could save that movie. And then, the name, Henry Rollins. Yup, Henry was in the movie. No idea for how long but the thought of Henry in a B/C Grade horror/thriller flick sounded interesting. And actually it was. But before we get to see Henry one of the best opening sequence deaths I have seen for a long time. Not because of any gore or scare but for the simplicity of the death. A large axe, head to crutch, one slice, two halves and then the two halves get dragged away. Possibly the funniest thing I have seen in some time. So before her center split death, she ( on the phone to her manager) essentially gives us the whole plot. This saves us from having to do any more thinking. SO its like this. New Reality show, Apocalypse! 6 Real world people bought to the rugged terrain to survive the end of the world and win a bunch of money in the style of most reality shows. Henry is an awesomely over the top Ex Marine in charge of them all and to give them the challenges that will make them the money. There in lies the story and after that its all about Hillbilly's, a blow job at a lake, discovering our inner selves and then being killed in new and interesting ways. Highly amusing. My only disappointment is that Henry only gets to say one one-liner after one of the many deaths he causes. Shame. Then things go downhill. Friends With Money - is about, ummm well its about, Jennifer Anniston's rich friends and the issues they have or don't have, no hang on, its about people and how they see themselves, no no no its about Jens being a maid and her friends being rich and.... No fuck it. Jen A (dull as usual and working in that "this character worked for me in Friends why change my style") is a maid. Her friends are rich, she has not gotten over her ex after a one night stand. She fuck's a guy in a few of the places she cleans and gives him money, she lives happily ever after, after fucking the guy after she finds that even though he is a slob and unattractive, is rich. Everything works out for the best and the movie finishes leaving you with a sense of what the fuck have I been doing and perhaps doing menial household chores WAS a better idea. Joan Cusak and the guy Neds male friends from Ned And Stacey couldn't save this at all. If it was english it would be considered as bad quirky british film. But it isn't, it is a bad quirky American film. Avoid. Then there was Memories -. Billy Zane and Tricia Helfer who has an amazingly large mouth, and Dennis Hopper. Billy is a brain specialist that while at a conference is asked to check out a guy that is dead in a hospital and accidentally gets a special brazilian jungle powder on his finger that allows him to see the lives of his relatives from the past. Turns out one of his relatives was a kidnapper and killer of small girls and he relives there actions when he dreams. He then decides to find out all about it and save the latest victim. As usual things happen and you are led astray and there is the inevitable twist and then its over and you again think about why you didn't get more of the housework done. Again, not even Dennis Hopper saved this shit. For those that like Billy, he has his shirt of for some time. Irresistible starred Susan Sarandan, Sam Neil, and some Australian chick. Made in Australia, Susan is a painter of children's novels or something and Sam is an architect. Sam has a staff member that is interested in him and it turns out she is trying to make his wife (Susan) crazy. We find out why at the end of the movie. It takes far too long, the "suspense" goes on and fucking on. To the point of absolute boredom. Dull, really dull. I mean really really really dull. Poke your eyes out instead. Death at a funeral was the event that took me to the cinema. English movie by Frank Oz that goes through the characters of the dead mans family, and all the dramas surrounding them. Look its amusing. Its not high comedy, high art but it is amusing. Um that's it really, nothing exciting happens, but that's the way the movie goes. Like spending a day as a fly on the wall at a funeral full of "quirky" characters. Watch it if you are not interested in having to think about what you are watching. Of course I could be wrong. Cheers Wolf 01/09/07 Gigs Well fuck me I am back! There has been some interesting times since we last spoke. Too many to go into here right now though. I have snapped an achilles tendon and been spending most of my internet time doing good things instead of this piece of disgusting internet fodder. But now I am back you should be disappointed. Today we will look at some sports news, some touring band news and for those of you into croquet, there is Motor Racing. Hey! its the first day of Spring here in Australia! Apparently that can cause joy in some quarters. Well to be honest it does for me as well but for different reasons. And yet there is disappointment. Lets start with touring rock Industrial bands. Well one anyhow. The Mistress and I stalked Nine Inch Nails around Australia. Actually were going on holidays at the time and thought this was a great excuse. We saw the first gig in Brisbane at an outdoor venue. The Mistress decided for the first gig it was to be the guardrail right of stage. Now except for the usual mob of fuckwits trying to get a fight going and a little blonde bitch wanting to get past me to the guardrail, I managed to protect The Mistress and receive only minor bruising to the ribs and back. Oh it was a great gig as well. Except for the support band which was a Finnish Sonic Youth type band. Sonic youth sucked and these guys copied that suckage to the core. The morning after the Brisbane gig, off we fucked to Sydney for the gig at the Big Top in Luna Park fun park, all rollercoaster and stuff. We walked down to the park early in the day to check the place out hoping the fun park was open. Fuck no, the one day a week they close the place for cleaning and shit we were there. But we did get to wander around an empty fun park. Fucking cool. Nothing moved but it was all bright and ready for a horror movie to be made. 6 hours before the gig there were people lined up. We were in the Spiral Fan Club which meant we got in 1/2 an hour earlier with about 600 others. Plenty of time to find a good spot. So at the appointed time in we rolled and got a great spot at the back balcony. Met a cool couple had a chat and had a good time watching a great gig except for the aforementioned completely fucked support. Turns out as we left Sydney for Melbourne to see the next of the gigs, NIN cancelled the next 2 nights gigs in Sydney. I think they are back in September sometime. The Metro nightclub. Very cool nightclub and I was able to smoke in there. I hadn't been able to smoke in a nightclub since the 80's. Anyhow, major suckage from the support. They actually sounded worse as the tour went on. So, the quiet but when Trent sings Hurt, some fucker in the crowd yells some shit out. Trent challenges him to come up to the stage mentioning that he can here the guy. The crowd chant for Trent as he basically shut the heckler up. Turns out Trent has had enough for the night. Equipment was fucking up. Some new stuff is just him and his synth guy front center. The synth didn't work. His black guitar wasn't working during one song and then when this guy says a few words Trent has a hissy fit, sings one more song and walks of the fucking stage band trailing behind him. The Mistress and I turn and leave. NIN don't do encores kids. We were seriously pissed at this walk off. Regardless of what any fucker says we had seen the set in Brisbane, the only gig in Sydney and this was the third in a row. We fucking know how the set went and they didn't finish the show as usual. There were at least 5 songs to go. Now we spent a lot of money to be here. But I can tell you not as much as some. In the end apparently the heckler got a kicking for being a cunt. Maybe he deserved it, but Trent should've had some respect for the fans. He had made the heckler look like a fuck. He was cool with the equipment failures and so was the crowd, they were watching there fav band and were happy just to see them playing. But nope hissy fit and off. The Mistress and I were gutted. This was the last gig we were going to see and NIN had 2 more in Melbourne the next 2 nights. So angry and hungry we sat outside our expensive hotel and swore a lot. Fans walking past us were unhappy at the walk off but thrilled that the heckler got a beating. So after we calmed down it was the hotel room and room service. Tough life for some. Upside is I got some great photos from the gig in Melbourne as we were above the stage about 6 feet and about 5 feet away. he walked over to us looked up and passed the microphone to someone else, but there you go. Awesome gigs all of them and except for the Melbourne walk off. That for me makes 5 times seeing them here. And for those that don't know NIN do not tour Australia regularly. I will give Trent my money again if he comes back. What can I say, I am a fan. Star wipe and CUT! While we were at the Sydney gig some folks were handing out little cards about a tour. KMFDM (which I happen to be listening to now as a matter of fact. Like you fucking care) are going to tour Australia the card says. Yee fucking haaaaaa says Wolf. Planning starts on KMFDM stalking. I cant remember if they have ever toured here. Turns out they aren't. Well pissed at that. And last time I posted I mentioned that Ministry were doing an Australian Tour. Fuck I bought the tickets for The Mistress and Hank and myself to go and the fuckers cancelled. Seems Al J had some "problems". Ahuh! Fast forward from that point to 6 weeks ago. Whilst doing some sprint training I decide now is a good time to take 3 months of work and snap my achilles tendon. So I did. So after fucking about in emergency wards of 2 hospitals a 70% musculartendonal tear is discovered and I am in an equine cast and a fair amount of pain. To add to that fun we have a Cure gig to see in a couple weeks. This will be interesting. Soooooooooo, off we go to the gig. Because I am in a wheel chair we get to park in the handicapped parking lot. Cool!. It should be mentioned here that I have a bright pink cast on toe to knee. The Mistress wheels me through the throng of tough goths ( sorry need a few minutes here to have a laugh). Weedy little fuckers in black all thinking they are the shit. All I have is a black mohawk, a black clothes (of course) a black wheelchair and a bright pink cast. Fucking hilarious. Anyhow we got tickets early on in the sale and wound up in the first row so I have plenty of room for me and my pink cast. there are five seats to my left that can only be accessed by going past me. That's cool, they show up and everything is settled. Now for those of you that didn't know it has been forever since the Cure were here and to honour the long time they playa three hour set with no support. What an awesome experience. Robert Smith sounded great. And it was just four of them. No synth's, just three guitars and a drummer with some effects pads. For some of the songs it was just the two guitarists and the drummer while Mr Smith did a few trademark silly faces and a little jig here and there. Truth is the gig was fantastic. The sound was excellent and the songs were large in number. All the way from 100 Years and Shake Dog shake to the latest stuff. 1 1/2 hours for the first set and then 2 45 minute encores. Couldn't have been better. His voice was strong and the band were "tight". The interesting thing about the gig was the range of ages of the punters there. Young goths, a few of the Emo fuckwits, and some old fans like me. What was amusing was to see some of the audience go "what the fuck?" at the new stuff while the older members of the audience started dancing around and then the very next song it was reversed. I got to hear all the songs I wanted to hear and was very happy, I even enjoyed the later stuff that I wasn't a fan of. Must have been the atmosphere. So five hours all up from leaving home to getting back home. The next day my heel and foot swelled to an impressive size and I was in pain for a couple more days. It was worth it though. So Dear ITW reader, that brings us to the first day of spring. And that means sport. NFL starts soon The rugby world cup. Right now Casey Stoner is kicking arse in the MotoGP. The superbikes are going well and the baseball is getting closer to the end of the regular season. But more of this later, probably tomorrow. So now you can fuck off and check the porn you downloaded. Cheers Wolf Email comments and abuse to Feedback@itsthewolf.com or CLICK HERE. |
